Alarm.com to Lift Curtain on ‘Wellness' Platform at CES

LAS VEGAS – Alarm.com, a provider of connected home and interactive services, will showcase a new platform to enhance independent living at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held here Jan. 7-10.

The Wellness solution combines sensors, home automation and mobile notifications to provide real-time information to family members or designated caregivers of unexpected changes in routines that may indicate an emergency.

"People are living longer, healthier and more active lives, and aging family members, as well as people with disabilities, are looking for secure ways to live independently at home," says Alison Slavin, vice president of product management at Alarm.com. "Our Wellness solution extends our connected home technology platform to help people remain secure, healthy and independent for as long as possible."

The platform includes a new bed presence monitor, panic buttons and sensors that monitor activity. Unlike traditional personal emergency response systems (PERS), Wellness automatically alerts caregivers and loved ones when unusual situations or emergencies are detected, according to Alarm.com. The service is fully integrated with the company's home security, energy management and home automation services, much of which can be controlled via a mobile app.

"Home automation technology continues to evolve. It's more than just controlling a single device from your phone; it's about your home working on your behalf," says Slavin. "Easy to set up system rules automatically manage devices like lights and thermostats, making the home environment more comfortable without the need for user interaction. Family members and other caregivers can even check in to make sure that settings like the temperature inside the home are where they should be."

Alarm.com's services are sold exclusively through a network of professional dealers. The Wellness platform is expected to be available in early 2014.
