Alarm.com Boosts emPower & trade; Energy Management Solution with New Intelligent Trigger & Automation Rules

Las Vegas, Nevada – April 6, 2011 – Alarm.com announced a new enhancement to the emPower solution built on the industry leading Alarm.com interactive services platform. emPower is Alarm.com's solution for energy management and home automation services that include remote control of lights, appliances, door locks and thermostats. With enhanced triggers via new Rules features, Alarm.com emPower customers can define even more custom settings intelligently connecting their security system to their locks, lights, and other automation devices. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

In addition to being able to monitor and control their security system and home automation devices remotely via the Alarm.com customer website and free mobile apps, customers can now set up powerful, customized rules to control these same devices automatically based on activity detected at the property.

Customers with compatible Alarm.com emPower-systems and services are now able to:

  • Trigger lights to be turned on or off based on alarms, arming or sensor activity
  • Create custom schedules to turn lights on or off at given times each day
  • Have their security system automatically arm or disarm based on door lock activity
  • Lock one door lock and have that action trigger other door locks in a home to lock simultaneously

"Alarm.com emPower customers have had access to scheduled automation since we first launched our emPower services last year; the new Rules tool brings significantly more powerful and flexible options for activity-triggered and scheduled system automation," said Rebecca Davenport, Senior Product Manager at Alarm.com. "Our goal is to enable customers to interact with their security and home automation devices as much as they want via the web or smartphones, and to also let them customize this technology so it works on their behalf, automatically and transparently in the background, making their daily routines easier."

The new emPower light controls make it possible to set schedules based on other activity in the home. Now when customers come home, a front hallway light can be set to automatically turn on when the security system is disarmed, or whenever activity is detected by the front hallway motion sensor so they can see inside before they walk in the door. Customers with more predictable routines are able to set up time-based automation; for instance, bedroom and living room lights can be scheduled to turn on at 6:30am on weekdays and then to automatically turn off at 8:00am.

Consumers can also benefit from rules that connect their emPower locks with their security system. For example, their security system can be set to automatically disarm when the front door lock is unlocked. This can be restricted to certain times of the day and on certain days of the week for added control and supervision. The new Rules functionality combines light and lock control options allowing end-users to arm their home from their smartphone and automatically turn off all of the lights in the home, lock every door lock and turn down the thermostat, in just one click.

"The new feature is a great addition to the existing emPower automation solution; the versatility of the trigger intelligence enables the home to basically think for itself," explains Donald Natale, Vice President of Sales at Alarm.com. "emPower is an innovative, competitive and affordable solution that fits into customers' busy lifestyles, making it a wise choice for Alarm.com dealers and their customers as well."

Alarm.com will be demonstrating its emPower solution, including the new Rules features, at the International Security Conference (ISC West) at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, April 6-8, 2011. Alarm.com technology will be showcased in Sands Meeting Room #401 as well as in multiple partner booths on the show floor.
